Match #3: West Brom v Everton, January 1st, 2012

So match no. 3 had some good things going for it...first, Timmy Howard was going to be on the pitch.

And secondly, we were finally going to be sitting in home supporters section.  Yes, that means booze.  However this excitement was compromised by the fact that we both had a preference for Everton to win.  Gotta support our American internationals.  Tim Timminy Tim Timminy Tim Timtaroo.  We have Tim Howard and he says f*ck you!

A few things we noticed: first...no vuvuzelas.

Okay.  No problem.  Second thing?  Brek Shea is trying to work his way onto the Baggies.

It was cool to see West Brom and Everton fans, donning their colors, during our journey to Birmingham.  Usually we only see Premier League scarves and jerseys at Hooligan's...very rarely out amongst the people.

And by the way Birmingham is way colder than Liverpool.

Our seats were in the second row mid-pitch.  No one was in front of us.  Basically we were viewing the match with the same perspective as the managers and bench.    Not too bad, but hard to see the run of play.

What was rather bad ass was the fact we could see the more intricate parts of the game.  Being pitch level allows one to see tackles and hear the chatter.

But as mentioned before, with a preference for Everton the inability to express it was a bit hard.  I could never sit in the visitor's supporters section at the Cottage.  No way.  It's not like in the US where fans often sit with opposing fans...all free to verbally cheer for any team...nope.. serious segregation.  Can't even walk around the stadium once through the ticket turnstiles.

Fan-wise, Albion brought it the first half.  Way impressive singing.  Second half though?  Everton woke up.
From another perspective we were actually surprised any team scored because the match was not beautiful... the game complete with its culture, fans, and environment was beautiful.

And watching Tim Howard always adds to the experience.

Everton came through in the end.

Cheers
